Affordable Alternatives to Europe's Top Summer Party Destinations

Europe is well known for its vibrant summer party destinations; from the sunny beaches and endless clubs of Ibiza (Spain) to the bustling streets of Mykonos (Greece). However, these can prove to be pricey – out of reach for those of us who want to party on a tighter budget. Fortunately, there are quite a few destinations that offer a similar atmosphere without breaking the bank. Let’s have a look at five affordable European summer destinations with beautiful settings, lively nightlife and overall unique experiences.

1. Zadar, Croatia

A quaint and picturesque city on Croatia's Dalmatian coast, Zadar offers a more laid-back alternative to the crazy party scene in Dubrovnik. With its stunning beaches, Roman and Venetian ruins, and exciting nightlife, Zadar is the perfect destination for those who want to party without the massive crowds and extortionate prices

We recommend a visit to local hotspots such as the Garden Zadar, as well as the Old Town’s narrow and winding streets (home to lively bars and clubs). Along the waterfront, you can check out the Sun Salutation and the Sea Organ, two unique art installations.

And if the time comes when it feels like you’ve had enough of partying, you can always head to Plitvice Lakes National Park for a breath of fresh air surrounded by lagoons.

2. Budva, Montenegro

We know Montenegro probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to summer party destinations, but it’s cheaper… and can be just as fun!

Budva is a lively seaside town known for its beautiful beaches, mediaeval landscapes and energetic nightlife, making it an affordable alternative to the more crowded Kotor.

This town offers a balanced mix of historical sites, pristine coastline, and a vibrant party scene.

Visit the lively Budva Old Town for a night out, and relax during the day on Jaz Beach or Slovenska Beach. Budva's clubs and bars provide a festive atmosphere, perfect for a summer party getaway with stunning backdrops upon the Budva mediaeval walls.

3. Ayia Napa, Cyprus

Ayia Napa, on the southeast coast of Cyprus, is an underrated resort alternative to Mykonos.

With equally beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a vibrant nightlife, Ayia Napa offers a similar experience while remaining affordable.

During the day, you can hang out at Nissi Beach, Fig Tree Bay or maybe even Water World (one of the biggest water theme parks in Europe!), and head to one of the many beach clubs and bars in the main city square when the night comes for some partying.

4. Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

Sunny Beach is the way to go if you’re looking to explore the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

It provides an affordable alternative to Ibiza, with its busy nightlife and beautiful beaches to catch up on sunbathing during the day.

The nightlife scene in Sunny Beach is booming, with numerous clubs like Cacao Beach and Bedroom Beach offering memorable nights out. During the day, you can enjoy activities such as water sports and beach parties (just be aware that if partying all night long isn’t one of your priorities, it might not be the place for you).

Fun fact: Sunny Beach is the oldest Bulgarian resort, having been first built in 1958.

5. Valencia, Spain

Valencia’s nightlife is slightly lesser known than its Barcelona or Mallorca counterparts, and it does offer a slightly more laid-back alternative, but who’s to say it isn’t as vibrant?

Fun fact: Valencia was actually the birthplace of the clubbing movement in Spain.

This lively Spanish city has a whole mix of history, culture, and nightlife – whilst being more affordable.

If you’re looking for a bit of bar-hopping and clubbing in the town, head over to the trendy Ruzafa district or the El Carmen district in the Old Town. If bar clubs are more your thing, Valencia has plenty of that to offer as well! The coast is lined with numerous party venues with music for pretty much all tastes (but especially focused on Latin, commercial house and reggaeton).

Last – but not least – make sure to try the local paella and drinks at the typical tapas bars and cafes.

Europe is known for its party hotspots (such as Ibiza or Berlin), but these usually come with a hefty price tag. If you’re looking for more affordable alternatives, we’ve got you! The destinations we listed are truly hidden gems, with a similar atmosphere and liveliness.

Whether you're looking for a bustling beach party or clubbing/nightlife sounds more like your thing, these destinations are sure to fill your summer getaway with unforgettable memories.
